About Your Teachers
The Burnham System is authored and maintained by Ray Burnham with the extraordinary help of his two co-authors:
1. Jean O’Reilly: PhD, CPCU, ARM, AINS, AIS, API, AIC, AIC-M, SPPA, AIM, ARM-E, AU, AU-M, AAI, AAI-M, APA, AMIM, AIT, ARe, AFSB, ASLI, AIDA, ARC, PRC, ARM-P, and AIAF and
2. Lisa Tobey: JD, CPCU, CLU, REBC, RHU, CASL, ChFC, AINS, AIS, API, AIC, SPPA, AIM, AIC-M, ARM, ARM-E, ARM-P, AU, AU-M, AAI, AAI-M, APA, AIAF, AMIM, AIT, ARe, AFSB, ASLI, AIDA, ARC, ARM-P, and PRC.
Ray combined his love of teaching with his love of insurance to become our nation’s leading insurance educator.
He has earned 40 insurance designations, passed well over 100 consecutive professional-level insurance exams (with never an ‘N’), and authored, with Jean and Lisa’s help, over 160 professional insurance course executive summaries, well over 200 including those before Jean and Lisa joined The Burnham System.
For nine years Ray served as the Education Chairman of the Central Massachusetts Chapter of CPCUs.
Ray also served as President of the Massachusetts Society of Licensed Insurance Advisors.
Finally, he served as a school committee member in Southbridge for five years, including as Chairman in his last year.
On March 5, 1984, Ray partnered with Nancy Nale and opened Burnham and Nale Insurance Agency.
Of the 250,000 or so independent agencies started from scratch in the USA, Burnham and Nale Insurance, after three years, was #2 in commissions earned--per Joe Citarella (who was #1 by a slim margin).
Burnham and Nale Insurance Agency was voted the “Best Employer” in its community in The Southbridge Evening News’ only “Best of …” edition.
Ray stepped down and transferred full ownership of Burnham and Nale Insurance Agency to Nancy in 1997.
Ray had been licensed as an all-lines broker and advisor for over 25 years.
Ray was one of the first five nominated for Business Insurance Magazine’s Lifetime Achievement Award (the other four: Sandy Weill, Hank Greenberg, The Institutes’ CEO, and the lead writer at Business Insurance).
To date Ray has earned the following 40 insurance industry designations:

Among all insurance professionals, Ray, Lisa, and Jean rank #1, #2, and #3 in the world in designations earned.
